Four islands are inhabited in this group, namely Skiathos, Skopelos, Alonissos, and Skyros. Still, the sailing area also includes the Pelion peninsula, the Gulf of Volos, the northern part of Evia, and the largest marine park in Greece. These islands are the greenest in Greece (Skopelos is over 70% pine forest) and are famous for some of the best beaches (eg Koukounaries) the best of which are only accessible by boat.
The view is breathtaking and the peaceful surroundings will make you feel rejuvenated... Dense pine forests descend to the sandy beaches, adding a unique emerald tone to the waters. Look for the Mediterranean seal (Monachus monachus) in the protected waters of the Northern Sporades National Marine Park, especially in the sea caves around Alonissos where they live. You can also see dolphins, turtles, and other wonderful fauna.
Starting from Volos, you can sail, on a cruise of one or two weeks, to beautiful anchorages in the clear, calm waters of the gulf within a few hours, such as Milina, Horto, Kottes in the southeast of the gulf, or the small island of Paleo Trikeri, with two wonderful taverns or the idyllic fishing village of Agia Kyriaki at the mouth of the gulf. Or you can explore the western side of the bay, visiting Almyros, Aghialos and Amaliapoli.
