Astro Camping on Mt. Tsmi, Agrafa

On this trip, you will have the opportunity to enjoy a journey into the magical world of the stars and sleep in the arms of the nebulae of the universe above the world. The ultimate goal of astrophotography at the peaks is to bring you closer to the stars … those who dare will take with their pictures and stories of what is worth telling our loved ones. You experience something eerie at the top, all human fatigue and weakness disappear, you realize another system of values and priorities, from which every trace of competition is absent, you breathe the whole universe….. and in the end, there is satisfaction in all this dream process ….

The meeting point is well at the village of Vasilades-Petrilo just above the church of Saint Panteleimon. You leave your vehicles and we continue with our jeeps, crossing the picturesque settlements that make up Petrilo, then we take the forest road through the fir forest that leads to the three borders and the mountain Tsmi. We leave the jeeps in the shepherds’ hut at 1650m. and we start hiking. An easy short route that has a panoramic view of the mountains Voutsikaki, Kanala, Gianniotaki, Haris, Saint Elissaio, and Karava and will take us to the top at 1911m.

Here we will set up the tents and after we change our clothes, do stretching and drink water, we will be left in the magical landscape with the sunlight illuminating our faces as we will give you a tour of the mountains that surround us, since east dominates the mountain range of Agrafa, South Delidimi with the village Trovato and west the mountains that are near Lake Stefaniada, the mountains of the valley of Acheloos as well as the mountains of Tzoumerka and Trikala. To the north, we have Karava and Voutsikaki as well as the villages of Petrilo and Vlasi which are hidden in these mountains. At the same time, we will be able to observe the various animals grazing on the alpine slopes of the mountains as the sun begins to set, forming interesting shadows and shapes in the landscape.

After sunset, we will enjoy the Venus belt and the shadow of the earth formed in the east with purple-pink, and blue colors as well as the alpine glow. Then we will put on our warm clothes and enjoy the night that will begin to embrace the mountains with the lights from the villages shining low down on our feet. When the night stabilizes we will get lost in the magical starry world where we will see the nebulae of the galaxy (Milky Way) with the naked eye, we will take astrophotographs and we will paint with light (light painting). At the same time, there will be the possibility of astronomical observation with the telescope that we will provide you as well as a fast-paced lesson on how to take astrophotographs.

Then we will eat some food of your choice (it will have been agreed in advance can be noodles or trachanas, alternatively we can have risotto with vegetables). In the mountains, we choose light food. At the same time, we will make mountain tea to drink as we will sit under the stars and we will share with you stories from our life in the village and the climbs in the mountains in order to make you love them. It is important to be able to share what you experience and see with other people and thus somehow achieve immortality, by having a unique, romantic, and anarchic way of life that on the one hand will frighten and on the other will awe people.

Then you can either sleep in the tent or with the sleeping bag on the ground (bivouac) with the quilt stars or not sleep and sit all night watching the starry sky until dawn. 

At 5:30 a.m. we wake up to enjoy the sobs, the Aphrodite zone/shadow of the earth to the west as well as the alpine glow since the day will return again to the mountains. We will see together the sunrise where the sun will rise above the peaks of Agrafa and will illuminate the peaks of the mountains. At this point, we will take photos and eat our breakfast.

Once this is over, at 7:30 p.m. we will pack our things to leave at 8:00 a.m. At 9:00 a.m. We will have reached the shepherds’ hut where we can wash our faces in the fountain there. Then we load our things and take the road back. Along the way, we can take photos, and pick wild strawberries and oregano always with care and respect for the environment. When we reach the village the excursion ends and then you are free to enjoy other activities with us, to rest, or to tour Petrilia and the other villages that exist.
